The Department of Journalism’s Alumni Homecoming event was held on May 23, welcoming alumni from the Class of 2015 (76th cohort) and the Class of 1995 (56th cohort) back to campus for a reunion at the Journalism Building. Returning to this familiar place after many years, alumni reminisced about their student days, shared experiences and stories from different stages of life, and reconnected through lively conversations and laughter throughout the event.

The event opened with remarks by Department Chair Professor Wang Su-Mei. Several former faculty members who had guided and supported the alumni during their studies also attended, including Professors Tsang Kuo-Jen, Lin Yuan-Huei, Bonnie Peng, Hsu Mei-Ling, Chen Pai-Ling, Fang Nien-Hsuan, and Ko Yu-Fen. Together, they caught up on recent developments, exchanged memories, and reflected on the journey of the Department of Journalism over the years. For many returning alumni, revisiting the Journalism Building was more than a nostalgic trip down memory lane—it was an opportunity to reconnect with their younger selves.

The classrooms, discussions, and deadline-driven routines that once defined their student life have since become valuable foundations for their personal and professional journeys. Gathering once again in the familiar space also renewed the bonds among classmates and teachers alike.

Professor Hsu Mei-Ling shared that the returning alumni from the 56th cohort were the very first students she taught when she joined the Department of Journalism as a faculty member. Coincidentally, this year marks not only the 30th anniversary of their graduation, but also an important milestone as Professor Hsu prepares for her retirement. From her first year of teaching to the moment she bids farewell to academia, being reunited with her former students at this meaningful point in time gave this year’s homecoming event an added sense of intergenerational connection and mutual companionship.
