Founded in 1935, the Department of Journalism is the first and leading communication research institute in Taiwan and a renowned academic institute globally. It provides a superb atmosphere for studies and research and enjoys a top reputation.
The College of Communication at NCCU is composed of several departments; namely, the Department of Journalism, Department of Radio & Television, and Department of Advertising. At the College of Communication, undergraduate students in their freshman and sophomore years will enroll without declaring their major. In their third year, students will be able to choose a major and a departmental affiliation.
The Department of Journalism offers two course tracks for undergraduate students, which are the “Journalism and Information Track” and “Media and Culture Track.” The two tracks not only cover radio & television, print media, and new communication technologies, but also social science, art and humanities, and other fields. These courses aim to nurture the students’ creativity, information processing capability, and professional skills in journalism, equipping graduates with competitive problem-solving, research, and innovation skills.
The Department's instructors are specialists in their areas of study and with diverse backgrounds. They have received PhDs from esteemed domestic and world universities and interact well with their students.

Practical Training and Facilities
The College of Communication has set up the “Center for Information & Integrated Media” (資訊與媒體整合實驗中心) with six laboratories under its purview, namely the “University News Lab” (新聞實驗室), “Voice of NCCU” (政大之聲), “Audio & Video Lab” (影音實驗室), “ITLab” (數位平台), “NCCU Theater”(劇場), and “Research-Oriented Media Lab” (研究導向實驗室), where each of them serves as the experimental platform for news, broadcasting, television and cinema, Internet multimedia, performance and show, and communication research, respectively.
The department provides state-of-the-art hardware and software, including print publication, studio, audio recording equipment, mid and high range video camera, multimedia computers, mobile phone for experimental use, and so on. Aside from the research-oriented laboratories for the purpose of conducting research projects, students can also, based on their personal interests, make good use of any laboratory of their choice.
Furthermore, the Department has its own student newspaper for the purpose of practical training, The University News, as well as Uonline (an online media) and audio-visual news, in order to enable students from diverse interest backgrounds to “learn through practice.”
